Welcome

The Town Assessor’s Office is committed to ensuring fair and equitable property assessments for all residents. As required by New York State Real Property Tax Law, the Assessor estimates the value of real property within the town’s boundaries. These assessments form the basis for local property tax bills.

We’re here to help you understand your property assessments and make sure taxes are fair across our town. Think of us as your local resource for property information, exemptions, and answers to your questions.

  • Property Assessments: Estimate the value of homes and land so taxes are fair.
  • Exemptions: Help you apply for programs like STAR, veterans, or senior citizen exemptions.
  • Records & Rolls: Keep track of property ownership and assessment information.
  • Resident Support: Answer questions and guide you through the grievance process if you think your assessment isn’t right.
  • Certification: Assessors must obtain basic certification within three years of taking office.
  • Training: Includes orientation, assessment administration, and appraisal courses.
  • Continuing Education: Appointed assessors complete an average of 12 hours of continuing education annually.
  • Ethics Requirement: Certified assessors must complete an approved ethics course before reappointment or re-election.
  • Apply for Property Tax Exemptions
  • Review Your Assessment
  • File a Grievance during the annual grievance period

  • Contact the Assessor’s Office for questions or appointments
  • Taxable Status Date: March 1
    • Exemption applications due by this date every year.
    • For new construction, the Assessor records the level of completion as of this date. For example, if your new home is only halfway finished on March 1st, it will be assessed at 50% of its full value for that year. Once the home is completed, the assessment will be updated the following year to reflect the full value.
  • Tentative Assessment Roll Filed: May 1
    • You are encouraged to review the Tentative Assessment Roll to make sure your property information is accurate and up to date.
  • Grievance Day: May 27, 2026 ~ 4-8pm
  • Final Assessment Roll Filed: July 1
    • After this date, property assessments are finalized. These values are then used to calculate your September school tax bills and January town and county tax bills.
    • The Final Assessment Roll is available for review at the town hall during normal business hours and is also posted here.

✅ Key Takeaway

The Assessor’s Office ensures fair property valuation, transparent records, and accessible services for residents, while meeting all New York State certification and training requirements.
